Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required * Reduces patient anxiety by providing a calm environment for patients before, during and after the collection process * Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. * Fully understand all of the physicians' orders * Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order * Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct * Package specimens for transport * Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen * Demonstrates proficiency of proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens * Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations * Attend annual department trainings * Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries * Other duties as assigned Qualifications: * High school diploma or equivalent. * Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred. * Phlebotomy certification preferred. * Three years phlebotomy experience required, inclusive of pediatric, geriatric and capillary collections. * Minimum 2 years in a Patient Service Center environment preferred. * Customer service in a retail or service environment preferred. Keyboard/data entry experience.

Chart treatments and procedures accurate in the forms provided immediately upon completion. * Enters appropriate information into the hospital computer system accurately and completely. * Respond to emergent situations in the hospital and assists with providing CPR/ACLS as certified by the American Heart Association and as directed by the hospital procedure. * Assist with the on-going evaluation and renewal of therapy by direct communication with ordering practitioners as directed by policy and as assigned. * Makes oxygen rounds as necessary and appropriate, causing the safe and effective use of supplies and equipment. * Provide for the titration of oxygen as described by Protocol. * Demonstrates competence and provides for the cleaning, sterilization, assembly and maintenance of equipment and stocking of supplies in the department and the floors, as necessary and appropriate. * Provides complete report to on-coming personnel and takes a complete report from offgoing personnel. Education & Experience Requirements: * Current License or written permission to practice required. * Must have immediate access to license while on duty. * Actively registered with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required. * Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP Certification required. * PALS and CPFT encouraged and preferred. * Membership in AARC and/or CSRC preferred. * 1 year previous hospital experience required. * Emergency Room, Critical Care, Pediatric, and Neonatal experience preferred.
