Shifts: 8 Hour Days The function of the Interventional Radiology Technologist is to assist in the various invasive angio and interventional procedures performed in the Interventional Radiology Suite. This employee is responsible for surgical scrub and circulation duties performing total patient care during and post the procedure while the patient is in the Interventional Radiology area. Essential Functions: Performs specialized radiography and fluoroscopic coverage of interventional and angiographic procedures under the direction of a physician. Perforins as a scrub assistant. Explains the procedure to the patient identifies peripheral pulses preps the patient for the procedure scrubs and administers contrast media under the direction of a physician. Removes catheters/sheaths and applies direct pressure or clamp as appropriate and provides necessary report information to the Holding area or Nursing Unit as needed. Circulates during the procedure maintaining responsibility for patient comfort. Provides supplies necessary for diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures. Technologist may administer contrast media only under the direct supervision of a physician. Records and processes hemodynamic reports contrast media records and charges promptly and accurately. Enter patient data and inventory into WITT program and send films to Stentor. Maintains room in clean and orderly condition. Promptly communicates equipment malfunctions to supervisor or Department Engineer for repairs. Rotates call on a scheduled basis. Responsible for responding to call backs within thirty minutes and responsible for securing call substitutions during absences. On call tech responsible for coverage if weekend tech calls in sick or leaves early. Keeps abreast of changes in the field of Radiology attending in-services and departmental meetings. Initiates and assists during emergency procedures as necessary. Assists in maintaining JCAHO and QA requirements hospital and departmental customer services goals and gives support to the team functions of the Interventional Radiology department. Is authorized to obtain medication radiopharmaceuticals or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner authorized/certified technologist or registered nurse. Medications to include radioisotopes and contrast materials cannot be administered without appropriate clinical credentials training and certification to do so. Employees designated to obtain these items may also participate in the ordering and distribution of inventory. Performs clerical duties as necessary: Familiar with the procedures for sending and returning patients. Schedules patient (in or out) for all procedures performed in area. Properly answers the phone. Properly prepares paper work. Locates requisitions and previous films. Properly codes and charges supplies equipment and procedures. Maintains patient logs and other necessary records for Administrative Management. Knows proper way to review film on Stentor. Performs other duties as assigned. Maintains knowledge and skills required to work safely in an environment that can create significant exposure to blood borne pathogens and infectious disease. Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience required. Education Required: Completion of an ANA-accredited Radiologic Technologist program or completion of an accredited radiology interventional program - Required High school diploma or equivalent - Required Certifications & Licenses: ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) BLS - AHA RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist)
