While CV’s seem like a relic of the past, they’re actually the best option in a few cases. If you’re applying for a role in a more academic setting, a CV is actually a better option. For traditional health professions, a resume that is about one or two pages long and only includes the important information.
Disclose Only the Important Info
Speaking of important information, one of the biggest points that Chuck Solomon made was to only include the information that pertains to the job you’re applying for. “Put the good stuff up front,” he says. While it might be tempting to include your entire work history (including that fast-food job), it’s better to only include only the information that will help you land the job. Similar to work history, you’ll want to include all the certifications that you have that pertain to the job as well.
Highlight Experiences When You Went Above and Beyond
When it comes to interview and resume tips for health professionals, you want to highlight what sets you apart from the rest of the candidates. If you have interests and hobbies that shape you as a person and healthcare professional, make sure to include them. If you volunteer within the healthcare industry, that’s also something you may want to include. Even things as small as publishing a health-based article in college or speaking at an event can be enough to catch the eye of employers. Solomon notes that it takes even longer to hire health care professionals, which is why it’s so important to set yourself apart from the pack.

One of the biggest things that health employers wish that candidates knew was the importance of asking questions. Although it’s usually the employers who often ask the questions, it’s a good idea for candidates to ask some questions as well. Ask about the work environment, or what an average day would look like. If this is truly a place that you’d want to work at, you better get familiar with how things work.
