Performs routine cardiac ultrasound techniques and examinations such as, adult echocardiograms, preps and acquires stress echocardiograms, pediatric echocardiograms, and 3D echo. Assists the physicians with transesophageal echocardiograms and operative transesophageal echocardiograms. Supervises, assists, and evaluates students in the clinical education setting. Obtains intravenous access and administers intravenous contrast agents such as Definity and Optison. Performs Saline Bubble Studies. Prepares preliminary echocardiogram reports and measurements for physicians. Performs portable tests in patient rooms when necessary. Positions and transfers patients safely and comfortably. Explains procedures to patients. Clerical duties such as, scheduling patients, ensuring accurate billing codes, answering phones. Maintains equipment in efficient operating order; performs preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis; contacts Biomed Department for major malfunctions. Knowledge and routine use of digital image storage system (PACS) and associated workflow software. Performs echocardiograms in accordance with established practices and procedures. Provides preliminary diagnostic evaluation and notifies cardiologists of results of examinations. Consults with cardiologist to establish requirements for non-standard examinations and determines technical factors to satisfy requirements. Requires an associates degree, and passing the Echocardiography Registry Exam. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
