Travel Technician / Technologist in Lewisville, TX - Job description :: Specimen Processing Duration : 3 month Shift :: Tuesday-Saturday; 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM Location :: Lewisville , TX 75067 Summary: Handle all internal and external customer contact regarding Referral Testing. Receive, resolve and follow up with complex customer issues. Act as a liaison between internal and external customers and Referral vendors. Duties and Responsibilities • Retrieve, sort and process specimens for shipment to referral laboratories. • Ensure sample quality and accuracy. Identify problems with specimen types, missing information, incorrect temperature, quantity not sufficient, etc. • Prepare specimens and packages for shipment ensuring they are prepared according to IATA regulations. • Handle all customer inquiries regarding reporting of results, service failures, and other quality issues to provide customer satisfaction. • Report laboratory results using established protocols. • Perform investigations and provide resolution to complex Referral Testing issues. • Research test availability using established protocol for selecting a referral vendor. • Assist Client Services, Customers and Sales by effectively answering questions and responding to concerns in a timely manner. • Communicate all tests not performed [TNP's] and lab accidents to clients within 24 hours of notification. Document thoroughly; elevate issues of concern to supervisor. • Identify and escalate Reportable Quality incidents to supervisors. • Maintain work area in a safe, functional and sanitary condition. • Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and laboratory safety requirements. • Required to use (a) personal protective equipment, (b) engineering controls and/or (c) work practice controls as directed by management. • Other duties as assigned. Required Work Experience: Minimum one (1) to two (2) years clinical laboratory experience. Preferred Work Experience: Customer service and/or medical background preferred. Physical and Mental Requirements: • The normal performance of duties may require lifting and carrying objects: Objects 1 to 10 pounds are lifted and carried frequently; objects 11 to 25 pounds are lifted and carried occasionally; objects 36 to 50 pounds are seldom lifted or carried and objects over 50 pounds are not to be lifted or carried without assistance. • Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods of time. • Frequent walking and/or standing. Knowledge: • Basic understanding of the operations of Client Services and Specimen Processing. • Thorough understanding of Referral Testing. • Basic medical terminology applicable to clinical laboratory. Skills: • Must be detail-oriented, have the ability to work independently, establish work priorities and to handle several tasks simultaneously for maximum department efficiency. • Demonstrate strong independent problem-solving skills. • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors, coworkers and clients. • Communication skills necessary to handle telephone inquiries from clients and vendors. • Ability to deal with patient and client information in a confidential manner. • Good data entry skills required. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems Education Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent - REQUIRED Work Environment: Required to handle biological samples and potentially hazardous chemicals. This position requires a data entry background. * Functions performed may include but are not limited to A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation and aliquoting. * All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy and in a timely manner. * Job is complex and requires that employee have good organization skills and is able to learn and understand specimen types related to test(s) ordered by client. * The SPT I must have to the ability learn and understand the compliance regulations related to test ordering which may change on a daily basis. * This position is critical to quality for customer satisfaction. Additionally, since many changes do occur from day to day, great flexibility on the part of the SPT I is required. The SPT I will be exposed to many different demands made by the customer. * Majority of SPT I work on the nightshift but based on staffing needs, weekends, holidays, on call and overtime availability is a requirement. * Department is a production environment, with emphasis on productivity/quality standards and departmental completion times. * Position requires data background with abilities to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour. * Works in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits. Able to sit or stand for long periods. * Communicates effectively with all levels of staff. Adheres to core values, safety and compliance policies and procedures. * Keeps work area neat and clean. They assist with radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures as a secondary assignment. The technician prepares rooms and equipment and transports and monitors patients. They may handle medications in accordance with responsibilities. An essential function of the role includes assisting physicians with arteriograms and catheterizations. This includes permanent pacemaker implantations, diagnostic and interventional procedures, and thrombolytic therapy. Related duties include preparing and maintaining sterile fields for lab procedures. The technician prints film and calculates stenosis on peripheral cases. They circulate in procedure rooms and collect data on appropriate forms. Monitoring patients' ECG and vital signs during procedures is necessary. They notify physicians of variances and provide emergency procedures as needed. The role involves performing pre-and post-procedure care. Technicians monitor and orient patients for specials and catheterization procedures. They answer related questions to ensure patient comfort. Transporting patients to and from procedural areas is required. Relevant medical information must be communicated to physicians and other staff through required documentation. The technician records and enters catheterization data and calculations into a data computer. They follow national and state radiation protection regulations for patients and staff. Maintaining an inventory of procedure room supplies is essential. Ensuring procedure rooms are adequately stocked and equipment is safe to use is part of the role.
