Travel Surgical Tech - $2,320 per week in Milwaukee, WI - About Facility: o Milwaukee, WI o Level III Trauma Center o Level III NICU o Magnet Designation o Primary Stroke Center o Beds: 636 General Information: o Beds: Census? Average patients/day? o Minimum Years of Experience? 2 years o Will you accept a first-time traveler? Further approval/evaluation from hiring supervisor. Would not recommend for first time travelers Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: Please ask amount and frequency of specified cases below o Ophthalmology Anterior: Cataract, Glaucoma, Corneal Surgery Posterior: Vitrectomy retinal detachment Equipment: Zeiss Microscopes must assist while looking thru oculars o Orthopedic Procedures: carpal tunnel, trigger finger, small joint fusions, orif distal radius o General Breasts, plastics- mastectomy, breast biopsy Patient Ratios: o N/A Required Licensure & Certifications: o Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) from one of the following: National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA) o BLS Skills required: o _See above cases_ Support within the Department: o Charge RN o Leads o Manager Technology/Equipment: o EMR: EPIC o IV Pump: Alaris o Med dispensing: Pyxis Floating: If yes, where and how often? Travelers float first? o Cross trained to Urology Center if skillset and schedule allows o No floating to other hospitals/sites Orientation (facility and unit) : o 2 weeks, depending on team and shift (subject to changed based on unit needs) Scheduling: o Weekend rotation: N/A o On call? Yes- weekday, weekend, and holiday 30-minute response time 6 week call rotation, subject to change based on staffing needs (could be less than suggested below) 1 weekday call- end of shift until midnight, 1 weekend shift per month, Sat 630am-midnight, Sun 630am-midnight o Holiday Expectations: If agency wants more information, please contract hiring supervisor. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * One year of recent experience as a Surgical Tech * Valid state license/certification or registration in compliance with state regulations * Current BLS Certification (AHA/ARC) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent certification * Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position SUMMARY: Surgical Technologists facilitate the safe and effective execution of surgical procedures under the supervision of the surgeon. They are responsible for preparing the operating room, maintaining sterile environments, ensuring equipment functionality, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team to maximize patient safety and procedural efficiency. ESSENTIAL WORK FUNCTIONS: * Prepares the operating room by arranging instruments, supplies, and equipment to ensure readiness for surgical procedures * Handles specimens with precision and care to maintain diagnostic integrity and follow institutional protocols * Verifies the availability of surgical supplies, checking machines and equipment for proper functioning prior to surgery * Assists with patient transfer to and from surgery as required * Anticipates the needs of the surgical team by passing instruments, sponges, and supplies during procedures * Provides and coordinates patient care with other health team members * Decontaminates and assists in the sterilization of instruments, surfaces, and other supplies and equipment * Ensures instruments, gowns, drapes, surfaces, and other supplies meet infection control standards * Adheres to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards * Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice REQUIRED ESSENTIAL SKILLS: * Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills * The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language * Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills * Physical Abilities - Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bend * Interpersonal Skills - Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism * Technical/Motor Skills - Must have the ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment * Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel.
