Duties include central and peripheral visual field tests, ocular motility tests, color vision tests, pharmacological pupil tests, tonometry, tonography, and tensilon tonography tests. The role involves determining intraocular pressure and conducting pupil testing for size, equality, and reaction prior to dilation. Responsibilities include directing the flow of patients examined by a physician. The technician obtains medical and personal data for patient charts. Screens patients for conditions excluding ocular examination. Arranges laboratory and other tests, ophthalmic photography, outpatient studies, and patient admissions and surgeries as requested by the physician. Explains diagnostic procedures and methods of treatment to alleviate patient and family concerns. Calibrates and maintains all instruments used, including bio-microscopes, lensometers, keratometers, tangent screens, slit lamps, and tonometers. Cleans and stocks consultation rooms and microbiology laboratories with necessary supplies. Sterilizes and sets up instruments for ophthalmic surgical procedures. Assists with minor office surgeries, laser treatments, and operating room surgeries as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
