Nearly half of all patients treated have breast, lung, or prostate cancer as their primary diagnosis. Most radiation therapy patients are ambulatory and self-supportive. In addition, we treat many inpatients who require intensive monitoring and services. Sedation and analgesia care is provided as needed. The scope of care includes external beam radiation therapy, low and high dose rate brachytherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, and total body irradiation. Typical physical demands include standing, walking, seeing, hearing, and speaking. The role involves lifting usual weight of 5 pounds up to 25 pounds and pushing/pulling weight up to 10 pounds. Reaching above shoulder level and performing repetitive arm/hand motions are also essential. Carrying a usual weight of 5 pounds is continuous and frequent stooping/bending may be required. This position operates linear accelerators, simulators, computers, calculators, and blood irradiators.
