REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * Registered Dietitian credential issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) — documentation required at time of submission. * Active California Dietitian License — documentation required at time of submission. * Minimum of 2 years of recent Dietitian experience in an acute care hospital setting. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS * Prior travel contract experience in a clinical dietitian role. * Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems used in acute care environments. Initial nutrition assessments will be conducted using age-specific forms, considering the patient's clinical presentation, nutritional needs, and cultural practices. Identifying and prioritizing the need for further assessment and monitoring of nutritional needs is essential. The candidate will identify nutritional risks based on the patient's clinical presentation, age, height, weight, nutritional history, clinical lab values, and GI function. A comprehensive age-specific nutritional assessment will be performed upon the initiation of nutrition support, following hospital policy and guidelines. Verification of diet orders and their appropriateness according to the physician's assessment will be pursued. A nutritional care plan will be developed and individualized for each patient, incorporating input from the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team members. This care plan will identify specific nutritional needs relevant to the assessment findings. Multidisciplinary team members and medical staff will be involved as needed in the execution of the nutritional care plan. The candidate will follow up on patients with prolonged NPO status as appropriate for the age group served. Recommendations for the nutrition care plan will be made to physicians as needed. Documentation and follow-up will include calculations of nutrient intake, tolerance to current regimens, and nutritional goals. Patient and family education on nutrition-related topics will be conducted, ensuring it is suitable for the patient's age and learning needs. Nutritional interventions and teaching will be documented appropriately. Accuracy in calculating nutrition support regimens and modified diets is essential. Monitoring and implementing the nutrition care plan will be based on nutritional needs and physician orders. Consultations for patients will be provided within 24 hours of physician orders and 48 hours of nursing-generated referrals. Updating pertinent patient information will be required to effectively communicate follow-up dates and nutritional care needs. Patient responses to nutritional education will be evaluated and documented. The appropriateness of diet orders will be assessed, along with necessary recommendations for changes. Nutrition support formulary products will be evaluated for patients with inadequate oral intake. Caloric, protein, and fluid needs will be calculated for patients at moderate to high nutritional risk. Medical nutrition therapy will be evaluated and implemented as needed based on changes in the patient's status. The candidate will account for their conduct and independent decisions made during job performance. Participation in department activities aimed at service improvement is expected. Serving as a preceptor for new healthcare team members and student dietitians may be required. Sound judgment and effective decision-making skills are essential. Ability to adapt to new assessment data and prioritize accordingly will be needed. The candidate will assess supplies, equipment, and personnel necessary to complete assignments. Data collection and analysis will be conducted to weigh alternatives and implement solutions. Knowledge of all aspects of the Diet Clerk position is required for effective decision-making in patient care. The candidate will serve as an educational resource in nutrition for nursing staff, physicians, students, and other team members. Maintaining a high level of clinical expertise and adapting to new information and technology in nutrition is necessary. Required certifications must be maintained. Participation in professional meetings and completion of clinical projects will be expected annually. Represents the nutritional services department in public functions as needed.
