Temp - Occupational Therapist - Inpatient (Days) Mattoon, IL

Occupational therapists plan and execute rehabilitation programs to help patients improve, regain, and develop the skills needed for day to day life and work.  Occupational therapists utilize a variety of skills including, but not limited to therapeutic activities, neuromuscular re-education, fabricating/issuing splints, adaptive equipment recommendations, therapeutic exercise, manual techniques and physical modalities.  They develop custom programs aimed at improving activities of daily living.  Our therapists demonstrate effective communication and strong interpersonal skills to motivate patients and provide compassionate care.

Responsibilities of the Occupational Therapist

  • Perform initial and ongoing occupational therapy evaluations according to AOTA standards of practice as well as state standards.
  • Develop Plan of Care for each patient based on initial and ongoing evaluations including short and long term goals, collaboration demands of other staff members, and required patient and caregiver involvement.
  • Implement Plan of Care on a consistent schedule and adjust this schedule and plan according to patient progress.
  • Document patient progress according to approved medical documentation and facility documentation procedures.
  • Maintain patient records ensuring that Certifications and Authorizations are in compliance with third party payer requirements.
  • Evaluate range of motion, strength and current level of patient function, while setting goals to improve in these areas that are scaled to patient abilities and realistically attainable.
  • Assess home and work environments of clients and identifying potential improvements based on their needs.
  • Recommend and educate patients on how to use adaptive equipment to help clients with daily activities.
  • Strong experience administering a wide range of occupational therapy techniques
  • Developing rehabilitation programs to help clients regain lost skills.
  • Supervise occupational therapy assistants as indicated in a professional and consistent manner.
  • Maintain open lines of effective communication between therapy staff, department staff and referral sources involved in the care of the patient.
  • Develop a plan for patients following completion of their Plan of Care with appropriate home exercise program, discharge instructions.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications, etc.
  • Assist other facility staff members as needed to provide care and create a clean, orderly and effective environment for rehabilitation and occupational therapy.
