School Psychologist

Duration: 12 Months to long term

Note: Bilingual required

Roles and responsibilities:

  • The School Psychologist reports to the Principal/School Director of the assigned Client Charter School and is responsible for providing cognitive, social, and personal development of all students.
  • School Psychologist will conduct psychological assessment, crisis response, individual and group counseling, school-based consultation, and research.
  • School Psychologist assist teachers, parents, and students in understanding, preventing, and addressing learning, behavioral, developmental, and emotional difficulties.
  • School Psychologist will help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • They collaborate with educators, administrators, families and other mental health professionals to create a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment for all students and strengthen connections between home and school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • There should be a clear understanding that the duties outlined below are not all encompassing.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned to the School Psychologist as required.

Assessment and Interpretation:

  • Identifies and assesses the learning, development, and adjustment characteristics and needs of individuals and groups, as well as, the environmental factors that affect learning and adjustment. Uses assessment data about the student and his/her environment(s) in developing appropriate interventions and programs.

Direct Interventions for Students:

  • Provides interventions to students to support the teaching process and to maximize learning and adjustment.

Consultation and Training:

  • Provides consultation to parents, teachers, other school personnel, and community agencies to enhance the learning and adjustment of students.

Program Development:

  • Assists in the planning, development, and evaluation of programs to meet identified learning and adjustment needs.

School Psychology Program Implementation:

  • Delivers a planned and coordinated program of psychological services.

Professional Practice and Development:

  • Applies ethics and standards of professional practice in the delivery of school psychological services and observes relevant laws and policies that govern practice.
  • Participates in professional organizations and continually seeks to improve professional knowledge and skill.

Communication and Relationship Skills:

  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and school staff.

  • Demonstrates integrity by striving for safe and effective service delivery, as well as accurate, timely and complete documentation.
  • Contributes to maintaining a Culture of Safety for students, parents, colleagues and visitors.
  • Reports to work, as well as all meetings and appointments, in a timely manner.
  • Dresses appropriately and professionally based on scheduled activities of the given day. Strives to serve as a role model to clients.

  • Participates in individual supervision as scheduled by supervisor.
  • Accepts and follows suggestions, directives, and requests to perform additional duties willingly and flexibly.
  • Consults his or her supervisor or others, as appropriate, for collaborative problem solving.
  • Exercises sound judgment, knowledge, and creativity in decision making.
  • Takes on personal development and building a learning environment.
  • Completes and demonstrates competency in all mandatory trainings as identified by the organization including knowledge of child and adolescent growth and development.
  • Participates in additional trainings as identified in supervision or by external licensing, contractual, and accreditation organizations.

III. QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in psychology.
  • Appropriately licensed/certified by the Pennsylvania Board of Educational Examiners
  • Post master’s level of professional training in an approved school psychology training program with institutional recommendations. (Educational Specialist degree Ed.S.)
  • Basic computer and technology skills.
