- Follow established procedures for all activities during the pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases of patient testing.
- Perform LIS functions necessary to complete patient testing and specimen processing. This includes ordering tests, ensuring accuracy of clinical data and releasing results to clients.
- Follow established procedures to perform patient testing. Analyze and interpret test results.
- Operate equipment, and perform and document routine maintenance.
- Follow established quality control procedures for all tests. Identify unacceptable results and initiate the appropriate corrective action.
- Accurately document patient test results, related patient information, QC activities, and corrective actions.
- Promptly report problems that can negatively impact patient testing.
- Participate in proficiency testing events.
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area.
- Follow all safety guidelines, including proper use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
- Comply with all OSHA laboratory safety standards and regulations. Know the location and contents of the safety manual and safety equipment.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of management, co-workers and clients to provide quality customer service.
- Work effectively within a team-oriented department and company.
- Stay current in the field by participating in continuing education activities.
- Maintain compliance with company and department policies and procedures.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee, patient, client and/or company records and issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned by laboratory supervisor or director. Work overtime as needed.
- Work effectively within a team-oriented department and company.
- Accurately prepare specimens for flow cytometry maintaining accurate patient and antibody identity.
- Communicate with pathologists regarding all aspects of flow cytometry testing including adequacy of specimens and appropriate antibody panels.
- Analyze flow cytometry data to identify populations of normal and abnormal cells.
- Perform routine molecular techniques such as DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, real-time PCR, capillary electrophoresis, an a variety of sequencing techniques.
- Analyze results to determine the presence or absence of genetic alterations.
- Accurately conduct microbiology and related testing, including set-up and analysis of microbial cultures, antimicrobial sensitivity testing and biochemical identification of microbial isolates.
- Correctly prepare and interpret gram stains on microbial isolates and patient samples.
- Bachelor degree in Medical Technology or a life science or chemistry, and/or certification as MT, MLS, MLT (ASCP) or equivalent.
- One to three years as a technologist in a clinical lab preferred.
- ASCP preferred
- Clinical Laboratory and/or Flow Cytometry preferred
