About the Position
Job Title: Sterile Processing Distribution Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: SPD Duration: 9 months Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours (2pm - 10:30pm, M-F) Experience: Minimum of 8 years required, including 3-4 years of travel experience License: Required Certifications: CRCST or CSPDT required Must-Have: - Experience with trays, decontamination, and sterilization - Level 1 trauma experience and/or 50+ case days - Competency evaluation with a passing score of 90% or higher - Ability to meet unit expectation of 24-32 trays per 8-hour shift - Decontamination of 2 manifolds per hour Description: The Sterile Processing Distribution Technician is responsible for decontaminating, disassembling, cleaning, reassembling, packaging, and sterilizing instrumentation for surgical cases, clinics, and nursing units. Follows protocols to ensure equipment/instrumentation processing meets standards for infection control guidelines. Provides both disposable and reusable equipment to the operating room. Dispenses disposable supplies utilized in surgical cases. Performs the re-assembly and packaging of instrument sets accurately and efficiently. Follows department policies and procedures and/or the manufacturer's instructions for use. Completes manual and mechanical cleaning of reusable instrumentation and equipment. Inspects instruments for cleanliness, defects, and proper functionality. Utilizes various electronic equipment to inspect electrosurgical instruments and cables for defects. Restocks specialty carts and supplies as necessary. Documents completed work and verifies processing parameters. Maintains accurate documentation within the SPD information system. Sterilizes instrument sets in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and manufacturer's instructions for use. Picks supplies for same-day/next-day surgical cases. Answers telephone calls from internal and external customers. Works in a fast-paced environment that frequently responds to urgent customer needs. Must possess critical thinking skills and have the ability to work independently. Familiarity with operating room and clinic workflows as well as instrumentation is essential. Basic computer skills and understanding of basic medical terminology are required. Ability to perform detail-oriented work repetitively for long periods of time with minimal error is necessary. Experience with borescope, OneSource, and SPM is preferred.
