About the Position

Job Title: Certified Sterile Processing Technician Profession: Sterile Processing Technician Specialty: Sterile Processing Technician Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Variable Hours per Shift: Not specified Experience: Minimum years of experience required. License: Sterile Processing Technician certification required. Certifications: Sterile Processing Technician certification required. Must-Have: High School Education/GED or equivalent; Preferred Associates/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience. Description: Processes and sterilizes surgical and hospital instruments and equipment. Assembles surgical instrument sets and trays. Distributes patient care supplies and equipment. Decontaminates and processes instruments, including compiling instrument sets, counting instruments, and recording counts. Sterilizes instruments, trays, basins, etc., with the appropriate exposure and dry times. Prepares instruments for immediate use sterilization when necessary. Maintains a clean and orderly environment in the department by daily wiping of counters, sinks, exterior surfaces of autoclaves, and high disinfection equipment. Cleans the autoclave chambers on a weekly basis. Assists housekeeping with room turnover, terminal cleaning, and daily duties, if necessary. Assists with picking supplies and instruments for upcoming cases. Performs daily diagnostic testing on sterilizing equipment, including test packs and biological indicators. Evaluates instruments for function and safety when reprocessing. Provides reprocessing services for ancillary department instruments, including various therapy and radiology instruments. Identifies and evaluates loaner instruments prior to processing. Records loaner information in a log for tracking. Maintains a biological incubator and log; evaluates for biological test results. Provides technical services and assists in various departments as assigned and directed. Works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and reports to the perioperative services manager. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Commits to the safety and wellbeing of associates and patients. All associates are required to receive all required vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter, where applicable. Medical and religious exemptions may apply. Participates in E-Verify for employment eligibility verification.
