Job Title: Surgical Technologist - Cardiac Profession: Surgical Technologist Specialty: Surgical Technology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 2x3 days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 3 years License: Not specified Certifications: - Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - Basic Life Support (BLS) Must-Have: - Pediatric experience - Cardiac experience Description: The Surgical Technologist maintains responsibility for preparation of the surgical suite. Responsible for intraoperative handling of instruments. Maintains the sterile field during surgical procedures. Evaluates changing conditions during procedures, making appropriate responses as needed. Maintains knowledge of surgical procedures and principles related to those procedures. Serves as a preceptor and engages with management and education teams on curriculum development. Provides sterile instruments and supplies during the surgical procedure. Performs surgical sponge, needle, and instrument counts. Prepares case tables with necessary equipment, sterile supplies, instruments, and medications for each surgical case. Assists in positioning patients for surgical procedures and maintains protective positioning throughout the case. Creates and maintains a sterile and safe environment. Takes an active role in preference card building and management through communication with surgeons. Engages with surgeons to suggest improvements regarding instrument sets. Actively participates in case costing discussions with surgeons and makes suggestions for cost savings. Physical Demands: Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs occasionally. Frequent standing and walking required. Occasional forward bending and trunk rotation. Occasional handling and finger/hand dexterity needed. Visual acuity required for tasks.
