Histology Technician (Travel) – Night Shift

Join a respected acute care hospital as a Travel Histology Technician supporting the Anatomical Pathology Laboratory. We're seeking an experienced professional with strong hospital-based histology skills, including grossing experience (required), to work a night shift in a fast-paced clinical laboratory.

Schedule

• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 9:00 PM – 5:30 AM
• Schedule: Saturday–Thursday
• 13-week assignment
• 40-hour orientation

Required Skills

Grossing & Specimen Preparation

• Grossing and fixation
• Core, excisional, incisional, shave biopsies
• Curettings and decalcification
• Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
• Smears and squash preparations

Embedding & Microtomy

• Automated and manual microtomy
• Frozen sections and cryostat
• Precision microtomy
• Embedding GI, skin, large, and small specimens
• Paraffin sections
• Fatty and hard tissue microtomy

Tissue Processing

• Automated tissue processors
• Calcified/decalcified tissue processing
• Dehydration and clearing agents
• Microwave processing

Staining

• H&E staining
• PAS and Giemsa stains
• Special stains
• Automated and manual IHC
• Frozen section preparation
• Slide preparation and mounting
• Artifact identification

Additional Preferred Experience

• ThinPrep
• Cell block preparation
• Cytospin
• GYN cytology specimens
• 24-hour urine processing

Work Environment

• Acute Care Hospital Clinical Laboratory
• Routine hospital anatomical pathology specimens
• Collaboration with pathology, radiology, and phlebotomy teams
• Patient population includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics

Requirements

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of hospital histology experience
• Grossing experience is required (Hard Stop)
• ASCP HT certification required
• Associate's Degree in Science
• Epic experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• First-time travelers accepted only with strong experience (10+ years preferred)
