About the Position

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician to join the Sterile Processing Department on the PM shift. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment while ensuring compliance with infection prevention standards and hospital policies.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment.
• Operate sterilization equipment, including steam sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, and washer disinfectors.
• Prepare instrument trays and procedure carts according to physician preference cards.
• Perform quality assurance checks on instruments and sterilization processes.
• Maintain accurate sterilization records and documentation.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, damage, and proper function.
• Ensure compliance with infection control standards, AAMI, OSHA, and hospital policies.
• Maintain inventory and stock sterile supplies.
• Collaborate with Operating Room staff to ensure instrument availability.
• Follow safety procedures for handling contaminated instruments and hazardous materials

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of recent Sterile Processing Technician experience.
• Current CPR/BLS Certification.
• Knowledge of sterilization techniques, aseptic practices, and infection prevention.
• Experience with decontamination, instrument assembly, sterilization, and inventory management.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current certification through one of the following:
  • CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution)
  • HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association, formerly IAHCSMM)
  • Equivalent Sterile Processing Certification
• Previous hospital or acute care Sterile Processing experience.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Sterile Processing Technician Certification preferred.
