About the Position
Job Title: Registered Radiologic Technologist Profession: Tech Specialty: Radiology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day, Monday to Friday Hours per Shift: 9 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: IEMA Radiography License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, Radiography (ARRT) Must-Have: - Patient care - Patient safety - Previous Radiologic Technology experience in a procedural setting - Hypersensitivity reaction management Description: The Registered Radiologic Technologist is a professional caregiver responsible for patient care in a designated time frame. This role requires providing care specifically in the Heart & Vascular Institute. The patient population includes those needing invasive cardiology or invasive radiology studies. The Registered Radiologic Technologist assists the physician in all procedures and delivers valuable service to both patients and the team. Key responsibilities include administering contrast material according to physician requests. The technologist will perform venipuncture and place IV lines as necessary. Recognizing and responding to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions is essential. All functions and duties will be carried out under the supervision of a physicist or dosimetrist. Inventory management and supply assistance are part of the role. Checking for correct patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment position is essential. Compiling pertinent clinical information related to lab results and pathology is required. Assisting in the instruction of new staff as necessary is expected. Accurate and complete documentation is crucial. The technologist must explain procedures to patients and ensure their comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality. The accurate communication of procedural nurse details regarding intra-procedural medications and radiation counts is important. On-call duties and variable shifts may be assigned to meet department needs. Essential functions of a Radiologic Technologist must be performed. Department-specific duties include assessing patients for allergies. The technologist will administer and withhold treatments as appropriate. Experience in peripheral vascular work, venous central lines, tube changes, and embolization work is preferred. Experience with neuro procedures is ideal. Dialysis work, including AV fistulas and tunneled dialysis catheters, is also part of the responsibilities. The role may involve tube access and changes for various procedures. Maintaining a sterile field during procedures is essential. The ability to pull appropriate supplies for procedures is required. Effective communication and the capacity to learn and retain information regarding patient care and procedures are necessary skills. Demonstrating compassion and manual dexterity to handle small supplies is important in this role.
