About the Position

Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician Profession: Medical Laboratory Specialty: Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Monday - Thursday Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Phlebotomy license required Description: The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs various technical, clerical, and information systems related procedures. This includes work in Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Blood Bank, specimen procurement, and other laboratory areas as requested on patient specimens, control materials, and proficiency samples. The MLT operates laboratory equipment within established policies to provide timely and accurate test results. This skilled individual is responsible for performing laboratory tests efficiently and accurately for high-quality patient care. Monitors quality control procedures and maintains involvement in the Laboratory Quality Improvement program. The Medical Laboratory Technician analyzes laboratory findings to ensure accuracy. Enters data from medical tests and clinical results into the computer for storage. Sets up, cleans, and maintains laboratory equipment. Works with laboratory equipment to prepare and analyze slides and specimens. The MLT operates, calibrates, and maintains equipment used in quantitative and qualitative analysis. Establishes and monitors quality assurance programs to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results. Collects and studies blood samples to determine various components, blood type, and compatibility for transfusion purposes. Analyzes samples of biological material for chemical content or reactions. Conducts chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood and urine, to determine the presence of normal and abnormal components. MLTs help identify abnormalities in samples such as malignancies, bacteria, parasites, or genetic abnormalities. May also assist in blood typing or other routine blood tests. Provides technical information about test results to physicians and family members. Performs other duties as assigned.
