Key Responsibilities

• Assist during surgical procedures by maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field and providing instrumentation to the surgical team as needed, functioning under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Apply knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, sterile and aseptic technique, and relevant tools and technologies in the performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures in accordance with AORN standards.
• Inspect all items for proper packaging, processing, moisture, seal integrity, sterile indicators, and expiration dates; ensure the operating room environment is safe and equipment is functioning properly.
• Monitor the sterile field for contamination or compromise events and initiate or communicate the need for corrective action under supervision.
• Participate in patient transports, room turnovers, room preparation, and the full Time Out Process including Briefings and Debriefings.
• Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization; maintain currency in new technologies, procedures, instrumentation, and equipment.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist program.
• Active Surgical Technologist license in the state of Colorado.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
• Working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking.
• Ability to obtain necessary computer skills within 90 days to complete online learning requirements, access online forms and policies, and complete online benefits enrollment.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Competency or progression toward competency in Tier 1 surgical cases.
• Familiarity with perioperative team communication practices and Just Culture principles.
