About the Position

Surgical Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours (630a-7p) Experience: Two (2) years of Surgical Tech experience License: CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Surgical technology - Aseptic technique - Medical terminology - Metric system knowledge - Patient care Description: The Surgical Technician assists other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care during the intra-operative period. The major focus for this position is on preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment and assisting the surgeon during the surgical procedure. This individual administers care and use of equipment applications based on the age and needs of the patient population served, from neonates to geriatrics. The Surgical Technician must be knowledgeable of specific procedures or specialties. They should effectively prioritize, plan, and problem-solve due to the changing nature of the work situation during surgical procedures. This individual must have the ability to recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations. The Surgical Technician must also have basic knowledge of medical terminology, the metric system, and aseptic technique, applying this knowledge in all patient and family interactions. They must display aseptic technique in performance of surgical duties to ensure positive patient outcomes. Demonstrating responsibility for the care, preparation, handling, and maintenance of surgical instrumentation is essential. Consistent performance of sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure is required. Demonstrating knowledge and adherence to professional standards of practice is imperative. Experience with hysterectomy, gynecology, total joints, general surgery, bariatrics, Davinci Robot, ENT, thoracic, neuro spine, and plastics is preferred.
