About the Position
Job Title: Speech Therapist II Profession: Speech Therapist Specialty: N/A Duration: 14 weeks Shift: Monday - Friday Hours per Shift: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Experience: Eighteen (18) months as a Speech-Language Pathologist. License: Current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the State of California. Certifications: Current BLS Certification required. Must-Have: Home health experience, home bedside swallow experience, and the ability to manage a full workload. Description: The Speech Therapist assesses patients for speech-related therapy needs. The therapist establishes treatment goals and develops and implements an appropriate speech pathology treatment program. This role reviews medical history and applies screening tests. The therapist meets with patients to determine clinical needs, impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities. A plan of care is established in collaboration with the patient and family, including expected intensity and duration of therapy. Recommendations for discharge are made as needed. The therapist provides education to the patient, family, and/or caregiver regarding the purpose of activities, use of equipment, and home exercises. Regular re-examinations are performed, and feedback is sought from patients, families, and the multidisciplinary medical team. The therapist manages multiple patients simultaneously. Services and documentation are provided timely, accurately, and according to professional and regulatory standards. Participation in continuing education is required, and information is incorporated into practice. Other duties may be assigned as needed. The Speech Therapist II assists with orienting new staff and acts as a clinical instructor for interns. Literature reviews and staff consultations are conducted as necessary. Attendance in specific clinical education coursework meeting guidelines is required, and in-services to staff should be provided. Experience and knowledge in a wide range of diagnoses, including general medicine, orthopedics, neurology, cardiopulmonary, gastroenterology, and otolaryngology, are preferred. Experience with geriatrics is required. Equipment will be provided and should be picked up from the facility.
