About the Position

Job Title: Respiratory Therapist Profession: Respiratory Therapist Specialty: Respiratory Therapy Duration: 17 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience required License: State license required Certifications: RRT, BLS, ACLS, PALS; NRPE required if going to NICU Must-Have: - Critical care experience required. - Comfortable with intubating patients. - Experience in a hospital with 300+ beds. - High workload capacity. Description: Strict 75-mile radius rule applies. Respiratory therapists will be the first line for intubating patients. Candidates must be familiar with high and heavy workloads. Interviews will be conducted with internal nursing staff. Therapists will perform an average of 550 minutes of therapy per shift. The average treatment time is 15 minutes per patient. Staff will manage an average of 13-15 patients per shift. Common patient disease processes include COPD, CHF, pneumonia, respiratory failure, ARDS, and cancers. Duties include all respiratory therapy responsibilities such as nebulizer treatments, airway management, and ventilator care. In the ICU, therapists will place A lines, manage blood gases, intubate patients, and perform bronchoscopies. The average number of therapists on duty is 11 during the day and 10-11 at night based on unit needs. Assignments are unit-based, with specific considerations for ICU and floor therapists. Critical care therapists are expected to confidently manage adult ICU patients and ventilators. They must also be able to interpret ABGs and alert staff of critical values. Shifts typically begin between 6:45 AM and PM. There is no call required for this position. Ceil blue scrubs are required, with the option to wear a ceil blue jacket. Pharmacy services are available 24/7. A hospitalist or intensivist is available in-house 24/7. No floating is required. Patient types will vary from adults to pediatrics, with NICU RTs operating under a different manager.
