About the Position
Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist Profession: Medical Laboratory Scientist Specialty: Medical Laboratory Scientist Duration: Temporary Shift: Various Evening Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a Blood Bank environment License: Active certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist Certifications: ASCP or AMT certification required Must-Have: Proven proficiency in manual blood bank techniques and antibody workups Description: We are seeking highly skilled and certified Medical Laboratory Scientists to join our Blood Bank team on a temporary basis. The successful candidates will be responsible for processing blood products and performing complex immunohematology testing. Ensuring strict quality control standard operating procedures are followed is essential. This role requires exceptional technical proficiency, high integrity, and strong communication skills. Key Responsibilities: Accurately process, prepare, and issue blood and blood components for transfusion. Perform manual tube testing utilizing LISS and PEG methodologies for ABO/Rh typing. Conduct complex antibody identification, including performing elutions. Execute immediate spin and Coombs crossmatching with precision. Investigate and successfully resolve complex ABO typing discrepancies. Perform, evaluate, and document strict Quality Control (QC) protocols. Utilize electronic medical records and tracking systems to manage patient data and inventory. Maintain open, professional, and clear communication regarding critical laboratory findings. Minimum Qualifications & Skills: Active certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist through ASCP or AMT is strictly required. Minimum of 5 years of dedicated, hands-on experience working in a Blood Bank environment is required. Proven proficiency in manual blood bank techniques, antibody workups, and typing resolutions is essential. Familiarity with laboratory information systems is necessary; experience with specific systems is a strong plus. Core Competencies: High professional integrity, excellent laboratory vocabulary, and deep clinical understanding of transfusion medicine are critical. Meticulous attention to detail is required.
