About the Position
Job Title: Interventional Special Procedures Technologist Profession: IR Tech Specialty: Procedural Assistant Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum 3 years experience in Interventional Special Procedures either in IR, cardiac, or vascular hybrid setting. License: Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s) include ARRT-CV, ARRT-R, ARRT-VI, or RCIS. Certifications: BLS required upon hire. ACLS preferred upon hire. Must-Have: - Able to function independently during procedures after appropriate orientation. - Competency in all aspects of interventional/vascular procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection. - Must have an understanding of anatomy and pathology and how they affect the quality of a procedure. - Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written English effectively. - Positive attitude required. Description: Functions under the direction of the Chief Technologist and Vascular Institute Manager. The interventional special procedures technologist assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures. The technologist has the knowledge and ability to obtain a quality diagnostic study properly and safely. He/she is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in utilizing equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. The technologist is able to independently perform job functions. He/she sets up equipment to provide imaging service and positions patients for procedures. Able to perform procedures in both the IR, Vascular Hybrid, and Neuro-interventional settings. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Clinical Skills include completion of competencies, use of critical thinking skills, and working in conjunction with healthcare providers. Preps the patient for procedures and demonstrates and understands sterile technique. Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedures and enters appropriate charges for supplies and procedures. Job Responsibilities involve flexibility with hours to meet departmental needs. Able to work scheduled and on-call shifts. Knows existing lines of communication and authority and handles communications properly. Introduces self to patients and/or guardians using proper scripting. Transports patients as needed and provides privacy and comfort for patients/customers. Assists with maintenance of departmental records and performance improvement. Completes necessary paperwork and answers departmental calls using proper scripting. Maintains stock levels and checks for outdates. Maintains current Licenses and BLS certifications. Assists in in-service training for other medical imaging staff as appropriate. Works as a team with staff to obtain the best possible outcome. Performs other duties as needed as directed by leadership. Quality and Patient Safety tasks include verifying patient ID using two patient identifiers, verifying front of patient chart for name stickers, and verifying written orders and consent. Understands and complies with pre-procedural verification and time-out protocols. Complies with site/side marking when indicated. Patient Education responsibilities involve educating patients, families, and support systems, and providing post-procedural home care instructions as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards of work.
