Job Title: Cardiac Sonographer 1 Profession: Cardiac Sonographer Specialty: Cardiac Sonographer Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 8 hrs AM Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: Minimum 3 years working experience; Level I Trauma experience REQUIRED License: Not specified Certifications: BLS (AHA Only), RCS or RDCS Must-Have: - Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic principles, instrumentation, and techniques. - Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology. - Ability to explain the purpose of the echocardiographic examination to the patient and answer patients' questions. - Knowledge of approved clinical protocols for each type of cardiovascular ultrasound examination. - Knowledge of proper infection control, including precautionary procedures. - Knowledge of relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy. - Ability to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with healthcare providers, including other sonographers, physicians, and nurses. - Knowledge of medical terminology. - Skilled utilization of computers and medical equipment. Description: The Cardiac Sonographer 1 performs basic to intermediate cardiac ultrasound services and procedures for adult patients. Services include transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms used to diagnose and assess cardiac abnormalities. General duties include preparing equipment, prepping patients, and explaining procedures. The sonographer is responsible for reviewing images, reporting findings, and analyzing patient clinical history. This analysis helps identify the purpose of the examination and determine the necessary extent of the examination. The role also includes performing cardiac ultrasound procedures utilizing various equipment and techniques. Accurate measurements are necessary for interpretation to obtain high-quality results. Identifying and defining cardiac abnormalities is crucial, and extending the examination scope is sometimes required. The sonographer may assist physicians in procedure rooms and operating rooms, performing echocardiographic studies. This assistance helps decrease risk factors during complex procedures. Preparing patients for procedures involves obtaining clinical history and pertinent laboratory data. This information is essential to adapt imaging techniques and obtain comprehensive, diagnostic echocardiograms. Maintaining the Echocardiography Lab and its equipment includes recording statistics and reporting malfunctions. The sonographer acts as a resource to other staff, physicians, and students regarding equipment and techniques. Collaboration with the quality coordinator is vital to ensure adherence to quality processes and protocols. Implementing protocols as new technology evolves is an essential aspect of this role. The sonographer ensures system echocardiography standards are maintained. Demonstrated commitment to effective customer service delivery and integrity is expected. The ability to work productively as part of a team is required.
