About the Position
Job Title: Licensed Respiratory Therapist Profession: Respiratory Therapist Specialty: - Duration: Direct Hire Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 0 - 6 months related experience License: Valid Provisional / Respiratory Care Practitioner License (RCP) or temporary letter to practice issued by the Medical Board Certifications: Certified / Registered Respiratory Therapist (CRT/RRT) through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) Must-Have: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 2 months of hire Description: The Licensed Respiratory Therapist assesses, implements, and evaluates the delivery of respiratory care services. This is done in accordance with hospital standards and department policies for the purpose of monitoring and evaluating patient status. Ability to perform medication administration via nebulizer or metered dose inhaler. Knowledge of humidity and aerosol therapy, medical gas administration, incentive spirometry, and respiratory mechanics. Proficient in PEP therapy, pulse oximetry, chest physiotherapy, CPR, mechanical ventilation, intubation, extubating, suctioning, and bronchoscopy assist. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to be detail-oriented in the examination of clinical and numerical data is essential. Basic PC skills are necessary for entering data and performing documentation. Assesses and delivers care/interventions to patients in non-critical care areas while considering patient age, cultural, and psychosocial factors. Performs computer entry, verifies physician orders, and documents pertinent clinical information. Provides accurate documentation in the medical record according to policy. Delivers care effectively to patients in critical care areas. Provides mechanical ventilation, both invasive and non-invasive, while monitoring and measuring patient parameters. Attends to ventilator maintenance and setting changes, monitoring patient response to these changes. Communicates effectively with the healthcare team and demonstrates professional judgment in response to changing patient or departmental situations. As indicated, delegates and supervises tasks to appropriate staff members. Demonstrates respect for patients' rights and establishes effective relationships with patients and families. Utilizes positive customer service skills when interacting with medical staff. Maintains ongoing communication updates with the department. Supports departmental and hospital goals by attending in-services, meeting education standards, and completing variance reports. Organizes, prioritizes, and performs skills appropriate for the patient population. Anticipates patient and departmental needs. Responds to code blues, RIT/CRIT calls, and transports in a timely manner. Participates in mentoring of new personnel. Assists in monitoring the quality and appropriateness of patient care. Actively participates in projects and processes designed to improve patient outcomes. Makes independent judgments in planning the sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field. Coordinates activities with others and leads others in the same work performed. Works directly with patients and customers, as well as internal and external healthcare professionals and staff.
