Travel Phlebotomist - $17 to $19 per hour in Shorewood, WI -   Position: Phlebotomist Job Description: * Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. * Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. * Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required * Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. * Fully understand all of the physicians' orders. * Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. * Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct. * Package specimens for transport * Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen. * Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. * Attend annual department trainings * Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Duties and Responsibilities: * Follow policy and procedures for the Clinical Laboratory and hospital. * Perform blood draws competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible. * Record phlebotomy requisitions. * Identify the patient by comparing patient information on the requisition to the patient’s Identification band before venipuncture is performed. * Display courteous, professional manner towards patients, co-workers, nursing and medical staff. * Label and record all test tubes, log procedures and file paperwork. * Demonstrate knowledge of colour top tube to use, volume of blood needed and test requirements Follow standard precautions at all times. * Dispose all sharp instruments in a rigid sharp container. * Clean and supply venipuncture trays. * Maintain clean work area, order supplies as needed. * Complete assigned duties efficiently and in a timely manner, prioritize STAT, scheduled, and outpatient orders. * Seek guidance and direction when necessary. * Demonstrate the value of team concept on a consistent basis. * Assist Laboratory Technician when necessary. * Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean. * Complete annual education requirements. * Promotes the desirability of quality end-of-life care for older adults. * Facilitates older adults’ active participation in all aspects of their own health care. * Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. * Report to work on time and as scheduled. * Wear identification while on duty. * Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations. * Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times. * Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices. * Communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the organization. * Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities. * Attend regular staff meetings and in-services. Minimum Job Requirements: * Medical assistant or phlebotomy certification preferred. * AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. * One Year of recent Experience in Phlebotomy required.
