Responsible for problem solving, teaching and instrument maintenance. Supervises the Medical Laboratory Technician and the Lab Assistant. Accurate examination and analysis to assist physicians in making correct diagnosis of client s disease. Careful handling of infectious materials to protect all lab personnel. Assist Director in directing the instrument repairs, ordering supplies, maintaining service contracts and planning the purchase of new instrumentation. Must be able to operate and repair all equipment in the lab. Reviews and approves final test reports, quality control results and test procedures. Checks the results of all work done by the MLT daily. Accessions specimens, keeps accurate records documentation and prepares and transmits reports neatly, clearly and completely. Maintains a clean and orderly work area. Participates in fire and disaster training and follows Lab Exposure Control Guidelines, Universal Blood and body Fluid Precautions and Hazardous Waste Plan. Maintains confidentiality on all client information. Works calmly and efficiently under the pressures of STAT, life-threatening situations. Able to give constant concentration in all testing procedures. Performs multiple duties simultaneously, some STAT and others within specific time limits. Provides orientation, training and guidance to staff to ensure work is carried out in a safe, friendly manner. Assists in the evaluation of competency of all testing personnel through an annual review by direct observation of job skills. Assists in assuring that procedures manuals are written in accordance with CLIA and CAP requirements, updated as needed and reviewed annually to ensure that employees have current information needed to perform tests. Assists in reviewing intermediate test results on worksheets, quality control records, proficiency testing results and preventative maintenance records and instrument function checks. Meets with and maintains working relationships with sales representatives. Participate in committees as assigned. Perform in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulatory agency standards. Perform in accordance with EPH vision, mission and goals. All other duties as assigned.
